Words disappear like toads in underbrush,
croaking and invisible,
protected from above by their thorny destination,
while the soft fertile comfort of ground moss below
caresses their rumbling underbelly of vowels.
Forgetting to form syllables
consonants recline,
forsaking words,
sitting sweet in the deep.

Always tricky when the shutters come down, Brenda… but keep going. Keep going!

This is the loveliest description of being blocked I have ever read. What a beautiful way to think of the words, nestled deep in the moss…..waiting.

Used to tell my students, “If you can’t think of anything to write about, write about writing.” Which you did in a very colorful and creative way. But then, I don’t believe in writing blocks, but that’s a lengthy discussion meant for another day. You did it and in such a delightful way, thank you,
Elizabeth

I love toads who come to dinner, a pleasant surprise, when you dig the dirt in Spring and up shows his eyes. Cute poem this morning. Love it!! Happy writing. Keep going. Cheers!! J
