The angel in the box lies in wait.
Sound’s empty waves obscure the face of her moon,
as turbulence flutters through her feathers
in a space simple and compact
like Earth’s confined clay.
She imagines the snatches of humanity
who imprisoned her, immobile and apart,
locked inside this simple angel trap.
Oh, how she longs for music,
like a junkie with a fix,
a mix of minor-stringed No Crows, some harp,
and a little folk in her range to help cover time.
The angel prays that the blundering pair who trapped her here
will lift the lid before her wings lose their luster
and there is no need for her balm.

Very interesting poem. Could be read so many ways.

Wow, that “snatches of humanity” could ensnare an angel – a frightening thought. I hope the music sustains here until she is free again.

Brenda, this is beautiful and haunting. You captured me with those opening lines. I could see and feel her and the struggle to spread her wings. She will fly again, she must…

Angels should not be trapped. Spiritual work lots to be done. Hopefully she gets to be free! Great write Brenda!

How like humanity to trap and spoil something so precious. We have been the gift of understanding creation but cover it with dirt. Not sure I agree with her choice of music though!

Is it so simple to trap an angel? Just a box with a lid? This is an enchanting poem, and I’m rooting for the angel. I hope that lid gets lifted soon, and that her lustrous wings will soar once again.

“Angel in the box,” is a brilliant concept! That first stanza is a knock-out!
The words were VERY challenging for me this week, and now I can’t find Mr. Linky to post my poem. 😦 That’s never happened before. I’ll be back later.

Someone find that box and let the angel out! We need all the angels we can get out and about!

No Crows, is one of the author’s (my) favorite bands. They are classically trained musicians who met in a pub in Ireland. They play much of their stringed music in a minor key. I love their work.
