1
six fortune seekers
drilled holes in eternity
so much chimney smoke
2
bottom of the well
the remnants of spent wishes
glint like winking coins
3
this unruly night
tosses limbs across windows
shifting dream’s deep pit
4
splits in consciousness
de ja vu like worry stones
polished sheets of sleep
5
dawn drinks mist’s sweetness
dissipating its wet cloak
cliffs begin to sing
6
flapping breast and wing
mourning dove whistles a beat
exhaling daybreak
7
grackles like habits
assemble in seed-strewn grass
breakfast at first light
8
puppy stretches breath
across porcelain mornings
padding through the dew
9
puppy teeth rip flesh
unintended injuries
little welts of love

What a neat idea…the ‘ku’s, I mean. And Berkely’s so precious. Makes me long for a puppy. I think I’ll be able to resist…we still have our aging wolf and I’m babysitting our daughter’s pugs.

Whirlku? YES, please!
Number 4 is my favorite.
“de ja vu like worry stones
polished sheets of sleep”
Mmmmmm.
And that Berkeley! OH! 🙂

This is great Haiku and I needed to acknowledge you for penning these.
So when you say:
“…grackles like habits
assemble in seed-strewn grass
breakfast at first light.”
are you really alluding to a life which id fully regulated and in unison with nature?

What a delight these all were. I must confess my favorite was the “bottom of the well” as I am old enough to remember their use in my childhood, but thankfully not at our home!

I found something in each one that made me pause and reflect for a moment. To me, that means really good writing. Thank you, That’s the really hard thing about puppies: having to admonish those love bites or fail to be a good puppy parent.
