Life is Good

Clouds powder the mountains with mist
until the sun’s slow erotic warming
dries the sky, dissipating droplets
into the blue.

Our gaze strays over gold grasses
that rustle like silk covering earth’s sweet curves.

We sigh in morning’s lazy swing
while the melancholy river
whispers its currents through pale logs
where turtles bask off evening’s cool flow
beneath the sun’s ardent spray.

A rosy finch flings her voice scattering it
through the branches of a proud ponderosa,

and we look up at the sky
rimmed by mountains
convinced that life is good.

  1. I’m loving the scattered alliteration in this, being a fan of it myself at times. And the images of misted mountains and rustling grasses and whispering rivers are divine, and so soothing.

  2. I really liked the line “the sun’s slow erotic warming”…I’ve often found myself sitting on a sunny day wishing for a phrase to tell the truth of the sun’s feel on my skin…you’ve provided it. Thanks.

  3. This is beautifully crafted. I read, and re-read, the first line many times. Living in the mountains, with fog in the mornings, I can attest to your perfect capture of how that feels. This poem is beautiful throughout and the words are used so effectively that it’s wordle-ness disappears.

  4. This is such a beautiful poem, Brenda! I felt like I was right there, enjoying the morning with you. Loved: “A rosy finch flings her voice scattering it through the branches of a proud ponderosa,” and “earth’s sweet curves.”

  5. It’s a wonderful feeling to be able to see and share mother nature’s blessings at her finest, isn’t it. I could almost feel that I was there, breathing it all in Brenda.
    What a lovely wordle 🙂
