Jasmine’s End Resting Grounds

A train’s ample whistle blows away sunset
propelling it into night while sister moon
rolls her holy call over rows of stone—
chiseled out letters trapped in granite.
A montage of markers reflects her arrival
as jasmine’s blooms put on a glow.

Answering Luna’s holy call,
faeries and demons tag their earthly domain
with dust and bedevilment.
Riding the whistles of trains,
they chase circles around granite angels and headstones.
Jostling for position, they scrap amidst jasmine,
and release her sweet sacred scent.
They prune her petals into opalescent piles,
to dive through again and again
adding sugar and spice
and evil and nice
to this resting place for the dead.

  1. Nice touch here Brenda, I love the viewpoint of the train.

    especially enjoyed the first line:

“A train’s ample whistle blows away sunset
propelling it into night while sister moon
rolls her holy call over rows of stone—

  2. Ah…my mind was channeling Richard…I was going to say something very similar about that first stanza being so beautiful all on its own! What a great setting for all that happens following that stanza!

  3. I especially love these sensory wordled words:

    “they scrap amidst jasmine,
and release her sweet sacred scent.
They prune her petals into opalescent piles,”

Very nice sounds dancing about throughout this poem too, Brenda!!

  4. Well, there definitely could be….I won’t rule it out…..a lot of faeries and demons amidst gravestones. Only a fortunate few would be able to see this (and write about it?), of course. A creative write.

  5. That first stanza sets the scene so beautifully – it’s a poem in and of itself. And then the second – all the magical action. Great take on the wordle words. I really like the train’s “ample whistle” – we all know that sound.

  6. So much to like about this poem, Brenda:
The train whistle “blowing away sunset” is brilliant!
And I loved “jasmine’s blooms put on a glow.”
And I loved your spelling of “faeries!” Conjures up mythological, elfin-folk!
And “prune her petals into opalescent piles,
to dive through again and again” – lovely!

  7. We Brenda’s seem to even ‘think’ alike. As soon as I saw the word demons, I thought for some reason of fairies (not angels) surprisingly. Loved the dance in this. The joust between them all accidentally releasing the sweet scent of Jasmine.
Lovely visuals all through this. 🙂 Glad your internet is up and running!
